Today, there are many practical home solar power and wind power systems, but for now, let's talk windmills.Ok, most of us can visualize a windmill.However, a windmill is an ingenious contraption that takes wind energy and can convert it into other energy types.

A windmill takes the forces of wind power to created mechanical energy from its rotating its blades which then can produce electrical energy. The windmill is obviously an extremely energy efficient and useful device in times of such energy crisis as in today's world.Just in recent times has the modern windmill been used more for electricity production, whereas in older times it was used widely for pumping water and towing boats.

In today's energy-crisis world, it is imperative that we all search for alternate power systems. A windmill continues to be an economical alternate, particularly efficient at farms and in the countryside. Due to it's obvious need for wind and open areas, a windmill may not be the optimum solution in a highly-populated area.

So, Just What Are Windmill Prerequisites?

There are really only two important windmill prerequisites:

Available Area: windmills will work best in an area of at least one acre or so. It is typically not advisable to build windmills in smaller areas since the blades of the windmill need to be able to capture enough wind power to work properly.

Wind Speed - the typical average speed of wind in the area is recommended to be approximately 11 miles per hour or more.It is typically not recommended to construct a windmill at sites where factors like high-rise buildings and tall towers can cause wind blockage. Consistency of wind speed also is beneficial.

So, Just What Are Windmill Components?

Blades: responsible for actually capturing the wind for energy creation, typically made of plastic or sometimes wood.

Tower: the pillar that supports the system high off the ground. Towers are made of hard material, typically poly-vinyl chloride.

Shaft: joins the blades and tower, which also allows them to smoothly rotate.

Base: The base of the windmill connects the blades and tower.

How, You Ask, Is A Windmill Actually Constructed?
